Transavia purchased the PH-TRO from Swissair. In service from October 1969 till November 1975. In the first years of its existance Transavia was not consistent with its corparate style. The PH-TRO had till 1971 the same livery of its DC-6's, which was designed by the Dutch artist Thijs Postma. At the end of 1971 onwards Transavia decided to repaint its fleet. The fuselage white, black fonts and the use of one shade of green. However, fonts, colours and the position of its name in the liveries differed frequently. The PH-TRO had been scraped in February 1976 at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam. The nose section has been preserved and is now part of the collection of the Aviodrome Museum in Lelystad. Transavia has head 5 Caravelle's Mark III in its fleet, 2 Mark VIN's and 7 Mark VIR's

The Mark VIR was developed for the U.S,market. More then 200 refinements were embodied in order to conform to the US.FAA requirements. It has larger cockpit windows, no dorsal fin and more powerful engines with reverse-thrust.In 1961 20 aircraft were delivered to United Airlines. The PH-TRX was to first out of five Mark VIR's which Transavia purchased in 1970 from United. This aircraft was in service from June 1970 till November 1975. Immediately after the delivery it was decided to paint the TRX in the new Transavia corparate style. This new style was not a success. Therefore the TRX remained the only aircraft with this livery. At the end of 1971 onwards Transavia decided to repaint its fleet. The fuselage white, black fonts and the use of one shade of green. However, fonts, colours and the position of the company name in the liveries differed frequently. The TRX has been repainted at the end of 1971 as well. From February 1976 till August 1976 the TRX has been used as a trainingobject for the firebrigade at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam. After this periode scraped.

In the mid fifties, KLM had to buy new planes for the medium range. Did they have to choose the Sud Aviation Caravelle, like other European companies had done, or the less advanced turboprop Lockheed Electra L-199? In 1969, the Lockheed Electra was elected, a comfortable aircraft with a traditional configuration. The slightly lower cruising speed, compared to the Caravelle, was not seen as a disadvantage. On the routes where the aircraft would be used it differed hardly in time. KLM chose as the only European airline the Electra. Problems en route and in maintenance were less easier to solve. The Electra had a speed limit during the first two years, due to a design fault in the engine mounts. After modifications by Lockheed the Electra proved to be reliable, comfortable and with good economics. However the passengers appeared to have a strong preference for jets like the Caravelle. KLM was forced to replace the Electra by the DC-8 for medium ranges and use the Electra only for the short ranges. In 1969 all Electra's were sold. Perhaps the Sud Aviation Caravelle would have been a better. The two repaints give you an impression of how the aircraft could have been seen as KLM had made that choice.
