The Diamond DA42 Twin Star is a 4-seater produced in Austria. Its airframe is made largely of composite materials. The aircraft was certified in Europe and 2005 in the USA in 2004. The original Tielert diesel engine was replaced in 2009 by the Austro E4 300 4 cylinder diesel engine, designed and manufactured by a subsidiary of Diamond. The Austro engine delivers 20% more power, while giving better fuel economy than the Tielert engine and results in a higher gross weight and increased performance. This version, the D42NG, has an integrated Garmin G1000 with a Garmin GFC700 autopilot plus the modern instruments such as those used in the today's generation aircraft.
