Air Holland was founded in 1984 by John Block, the former director of Transavia Holland. From the start Air Holland was successful and succeeded within a short time to get a substantial market share on the Dutch charter market. John Block was less succesfull in choosing his staff and financiers. In the 10 years of its existence, the company went bankrupt 3 times and restarted three times. The definitive bankruptcy was pronounced on March 25, 2004, because the company was unable to refinance and the major customers canceled their contracts. The personnel, planes, flight rights and liabilities were taken over by Holland Exel. This company too had to end its activities in May 2005 and was partly taken over by TUI subsidiary ArkeFly. Air Holland started with 3 Boeings 727-200, which were replaced by the 757-200 in 1988.
