Dutchbird was founded in 2000 by touroperator Sudtours to compete with KLM subsidiaries Transavia and
Martinair. DutchBird distinguished itself as an airline by the extensive service on board, and in its existence it
won three times the prize for best Dutch charter airline. Nevertheless, DutchBird did not succeed in acquiring
contracts from other Dutch touroperators and it continued to suffer losses. In the beginning of 2005, DutchBird
went bankrupt. The fleet consisted of three Boeing 757-200 (PH-DBA, PH-DBB and PH-DBH, leased from
Condor) and two Airbus A320, used on holiday flights from Amsterdam to the Mediterranean, Egypt, Turkey,
Gambia and the Canary Islands.
The typical color scheme, the yellow belly with the red-white-blue, was due to the fact that the Boeings of
Condor had a yellow belly. DutchBird added the red-white-blue, the colors of the Dutch flag.
