During and immediately after the Second World War the transportation by air in the Netherlands was provided by No.. 1316 (English Communications) Flight RAF Transport Command. When this section was terminated its airplanes went to the "Netherlands Government Air Transport" (NGAT). At that time it was not allowed to civil airlines to land at airports along the route. Therefore the Dutch Government performed the routes as a government service. In the autumn of 1945, the Dutch Government hired Douglas C-54 aircraft from the former USAF in order to recover KLM-services. The aircraft were flown by KLM crews, formally employed by the State and were therefore air force uniforms. The machines had an airforce NL-registration, which were repaced in 1947 by the civil PH-registration after the transfer of activities to the KLM . The NL-300 came into service in October 1945 and performed the first flight on 10.11.1945 to the Dutch Indies. Later it became the registration PH-TAB. In October 1947 the aircraft was sold to Skyways in GB.

The DC-7C disappeared after only a few years in service due to the difficulties with the complicated turbo-compound engines and high cost of maintenance with the complicated turbo-compound engines.

In January 1966, the new Dutch company Transavia Limburg B.V. got a license to provide charter flights from the airports of Beek and Rotterdam with Dakota's. The new company purchased a Dakota from British United Channel Airways and painted in the livery of Transavia. The Boreas Corporation in Florida was a trader in second-hand aircraft and interested in the rapidly evolving European holiday market and bought Transavia. The new CAO became John Block, the former partner of Martin Schröder of Martin's Air Charter. John Block only wanted to accept the job if Transavia would have larger aircraft. Boreas decided to provide three DC-6's available and purchase of the DC-3 was canceled. The PH-RIC stayed in England and never flew for Transavia. I found only a black/white picture of the PH-RIC in one of my books. I am not sure about the colours but it probably they used the basic colours of BUA Channel Airways of those days.
In July 1966, Transavia got three DC-6's, two DC-6's and one DC-6B. They were painted into the new house style designed by the Dutch artist Thijs Postma. On November 14, 1966, the new charter company got the license to fly with larger aircraft than the Dakota and on 16 November the first charter was performed with the DC-6B PH-TRC, Where the Dutch Dance Theater and the Dutch Ballet Orchestra were transported from Amsterdam to Naples. The PH-TRC was sold to Flughjalp in 1969. Transavia has had 11 DC-6 in its fleet and were in service from 1966 to 1969.
