Denim Air was founded in 1996 by Hamid Kerboua. After employment with Holland Aero Leasing, Base Airlines and the VLM, he started Denim Air. A scheduled service to London City and a little later to Nice was started from Eindhoven Airport. Due to fierce competition from Ryanair an easyJet the services had to be discontinued. Denim Air then focused on wet leasing. The Spanish Air Nostrum was the main customer which leased at one point 14 Fokker 50's. In 2005 Denim was sold to Panta Holdings, owner of VLM Airlines. Wet-leasing was continued and when Panta sold VLM to KLM-Air France, Denim started its own scheduled services again. However Denim Air went bankrupt in 2010. They still had a lucrative contract with the Norwegian Air Force and to maintain this contract, it was decided to make a restart with 2 Fokker 50s. Until 2014 business went well and the fleet was expanded again. At the end of 2014, a management buy-out of Panta took place and the "new" Panta was no longer interested in Denim. At the end of 2016 Denim lost its permit and went bankrupt in January 2017. In the years of its existence, Denim Air has 27 Fokker 50s, 4 Fokker 100s, 3 Embrear ERJ 190, 1 Embraer ERJ-145.1 DeHavilland Dash 8 and 1 ATR 42 in its fleet.
